Lava fue fundada por Svein Dag Hauge en Årdal, Noruega en 1977. En sus inicios, comenzó como una banda instrumental tocando jazz / rock. Después de su primer álbum "LAVA", la banda se reformó con 5 nuevos miembros, Marius Müller (guitarra), Rolf Graf (bajo), Per Kolstad (teclados), Geir Langslet (teclados) y Sigurd Køhn (saxo) además del guitarrista Svein Dag Hauge y el batería Per Hillestad. Después del exitoso segundo álbum "Cruisin'", Lava encontró al cantante Egil Eldøen, y la alineación se mantuvo constante a lo largo de los años 80.

After their first album "LAVA", the band was reformed with 5 new members, Marius Müller (guitar), Rolf Graf (bass), Per Kolstad (keyboards), Geir Langslet (keyboards) and Sigurd Køhn (saxophone) in addition to the guitarist Svein Dag Hauge and drummer Per Hillestad. After the successful second album "Cruisin '", Lava found singer Egil Eldøen, and the lineup remained constant throughout the 80s.
In 1983 Lava became the usual accompaniment band of Randy Crawford performing an extensive tour for 10 years worldwide. Japan, Australia, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Switzerland, Zimbabwe were visited in addition to several European and Scandinavian tours. With two sold out Royal Albert Hall concerts as one of the most memorable moments.
