PETER WHITE · MUSIC FOR STARLUX AIRLINES

Peter White

Music For Starlux Airlines

Label: Lobster Music, Inc.

29 Nov. 2019

Tracklist
1. Flying High (7:03)
2. Island Getaway (7:08)
3. Peaceful (7:54)
4. Fun in the Sun (7:24)
5. Adventure (7:25)
6.Homeward Bound (7:19)

···························

Peter White’s latest endeavor is a collection of songs written for a new luxury airline based in Taiwan called STARLUX Airlines. Peter was commissioned by STARLUX to record music for their onboard entertainment system and he welcomed the opportunity.

“With these songs, my goal was to create happy and uplifting music that also conveyed a sense of travel, escape, and adventure,” he said. Instead of the standard 3-5 minute song length, “the airline wanted songs that were over 7 minutes long which posed a new challenge - how to make a song interesting and easy to listen to yet complex enough to hold a listener’s attention from beginning to end. Also, I didn’t use any saxophone but featured myself playing piano, synthesizer, accordion and harmonica on certain songs just to add more variety.”

STARLUX is launching operations in January 2020 and will first be flying in Asia with plans to expand its route map to North America by 2024. Peter’s new music will be heard on STARLUX flights and will also be released commercially in November 2019.

GABRIEL MARK HASSELBACH. ALGARVE SMOOTH JAZZ FESTIVAL 2019

································
Although he plays several instruments, the trumpet remains Gabriel Mark Hasselbach's first love and his first choice.

Music is a dazzling lover. Once Gabriel Mark Hasselbach fell in love with him, he could never let go. His music brought him from Denver, Colorado, to Vancouver, where his jazz performances have been in great demand for many years.

He began playing professionally in his teens. Endowed with multiple creative disciplines, he had the option of choosing several careers in high school. Upon graduation, I was sure I wanted to be a musician. "I hit the road when I turned 18," he recalled. “I answered an announcement for an audition for a band. I was in a bad and dangerous area of the city, but I went anyway and got the job, with the soul band Nitro. All the other musicians were 10 or 15 years older than me. ”

He played with that band and toured the Midwest with them for a while. He also got a recording his first year. When Hasselbach returned to Denver, he worked on some jobs not related to music, but not for a long time. In the 1970s, he came to Canada as a musician, and here he stayed.

"I brought my bike, my trumpet and a stack of music books," he said. "This is how I learned. I never went to a conservatory, but I read the books, practiced a lot and acted a lot, alone and with others. I think that, in this way, I kept my musical personality, my uniqueness as a musician."

In his early years, he was known in Vancouver by his middle name, Mark. "I changed the name of my interpreter to my full name, Gabriel Mark Hasselbach, in 1992," he said. "Gabriel is my first name, and Gabriel was the original angel with a horn, it fit."

Again and again, his creativity pushed him to explore other ways besides music. However, he remained a jazz musician, and was among the original members of the jazz/pop/blues band Powder Blues, which was founded in 1978 in Gastown. "I toured the world with this band," Hasselbach said. "We played often in Canada and the United States. We won several multi-platinum record awards and the JUNO Awards. I was with the band for five years."

But he wanted to play and record alone, so he left the band and made his first solo recording in the
early 1980s. At this time, he has more than a dozen albums in his name and multiple awards, including JUNOs and Smooth Jazz Awards He has had numerous Billboard hits in the top 15 and higher and represented the Vancouver jazz scene at the Beijing and Vancouver Olympics in 2008 and 2010, respectively.

Since it was established in Canada, Hasselbach has performed with many renowned national and international musicians. From 1996 to 1999, he hired Michael Bublé to play with his band. When Bublé reached stardom, Hasselbach worked for him as his musical director from 1999 to 2003. Hasselbach has also performed or recorded with Nikki Yanofsky, Jim Byrnes and many others.

Although he plays several instruments, including trumpet, flute, trumpet and trombone, the trumpet remains his first love and first choice. He also writes music. Most of the pieces he performs and records are his original compositions.

AL SUNNY · PLANETS

Al Sunny

Planets

Label: Favorite Recordings

12 Nov. 2019

Tracklist
1.How Does It Feel
2.If Your Heart
3.You and I
4.Should I
5.A Million Miles Away
6.If You Lose Me
7.Colored Smile
8.Planets
9.Song For Two (CD & Digital Bonus Track)

Two years after an acclaimed first album, Al Sunny and Favorite Recordings proudly present Planets, carrying on their collaboration and bringing it to another level.
··················································
Al Sunny is a young and talented singer/musician/composer emerging from the French soul music scene. During his conservatory studies, he refined his knowledge and confirmed his desire to write and compose. He quickly matured the music that he truly loves, inspired by artists such as Tim Maia, America, Al Green, and Al Jarreau. Giving birth to the majority of his compositions through his guitar, he always seeks to bring his songs’ melody to the forefront. During his studies he kept experiencing live performing on different scenes and confirmed his choice for a musical career, while also meeting many brilliant musicians, including Florian Pellissier, who later introduced him to Pascal Rioux and Favorite Recordings.

It resulted in 2017 in Time to Decide release, a dazzling first album establishing Al Sunny’s music and writing style, looking towards the 70s and 80s Westcoast movement, infused with Blue-Eyed-Soul, Pop and Folk flavors. Built on the same influences, Planets is made of 8 new compositions (including a CD and digital bonus), and is clearly a continuation of its cadet, asserting Al Sunny’s talent and singing skills.

Fully recorded live and analogic in Paris, this new album also stands out by an impressive level of production, faithful to some classics of the genre. Mixing catchy melodies, soulful vocals, warm and heavy bass, strong beat and beautiful guitars and keyboards harmonies, Planets just perfectly meets the AOR and Modern-Soul golden era standards.
