MARHID · SENSIBILITY ·RADIO SINGLE·

Dr.Funk Producciones
June 5, 2021

MARHID is the combination of the acronym MAR (Margam) & HID (Hidalgo), the reunion of two great friends, musicians and producers passionate about Contemporary Jazz that destiny has reunited during the pandemic in which they unify and merge their creativity and experience with Guitar and Keyboard instruments respectively.

Coincidentally, MARHID translated into Arabic means "Cradle" and represents the birth of a new musical stage for both artists that begins with the presentation of the first debut single "Sensibility" inspired by the own and inherent capacity of any living being to perceive sensations and respond to small stimuli or excitements through the power of music.

David Margam has become one of the top representatives of Smooth Jazz, Funk & Groove From the Spanish scene today, a facet that he combines as a producer, arranger and composer.

David is leader, founder and is part of FUNKDACION as a guitarist, one of the oldest and most representative bands of Spanish Funk, which is now celebrating its 26th anniversary.

Sergio Hidalgo has become one of the most prolific and promising producers on the Spanish music scene. He has come to participate in many Spanish musical projects as a keyboard player and currently combines his work as a Sound Engineer and producer in different formations as a keyboard player accompanying Spanish artists of all kinds of musical genres.

With a progressive, avant-garde and multifaceted approach to urban jazz, the veteran composer and guitarist David Margam and the Multifaceted Producer and keyboardist Sergio Hidalgo merge their sound, although the main objective of the new project is to consolidate their own identity in a new instrumental era of music modern where they leave the doors open on the way to urban jazz funk.

"Sensibility" debut single preview of his first album scheduled for this year 2021 of this fruitful project in which the media and radio stations around the world predict a promising future in the Smooth Jazz scene internationally.

THE BAMBOOS · HARD UP

Pacific Theatre / BMG
May 7, 2021

The Bamboos have refined their craft of finding the sweetest spot between Soul and Funk to the finest point yet on their tenth studio album, Hard Up. It arrives after five singles released over the past year: “Nothing I Wanna Know About”, their infectious cover of Black Box’s “Ride On Time”, the righteous “Power Without Greed”, “While You Sleep” feat. Ev Jones and kicking off in the middle of lockdown with the title track with that earworm whistled chorus.

The album continues their long history of collaborations, with LA-based vocalist Joey Dosik looking towards the light on “It’s All Gonna Be O.K.” and Louisiana-born Durand Jones (of current deep soul faves Durand Jones & The Indications) anticipating when he can just go out and dance with his partner on “If Not Now (Then When)”. But even with guests of that calibre, Kylie Auldist is never outshone on a Bamboos album. Displaying an incredible range and richness with no need for showy vocal gymnastics, she can move from tenderness on torch song “I Just Heard You Leaving”, to carefree sweetness on “The Thing About You” to out-and-out power on “Tomorrow”. Recalling their Deep Funk origins the instrumentalists in the band (which include some of Melbourne’s finest jazz players) get to stretch out on New Orleans-flavoured instrumental “Upwey Funk”.

Overseas reactions to the album are some the strongest the band has received to date, with four star reviews in UK soul bibles Blues & Soul and Echoes, key music magazines in Italy and France - plus they are fast ascending the Triple A radio charts in the US with “If Not Now (Then When)” and “Hard Up”. The latter song also recently appeared in the new US TV series “Kenan”, starring Saturday Night Live’s Kenan Thompson alongside Don Johnson. The band’s popularity in the US, UK and Europe has remained strong since the mid 2000’s when they were the first Australian soul band to get signed to a key overseas label and to tour.

Most of the album was recorded communally over a week at a sprawling country house just outside the (coincidentally named) town of Lancefield, north of Melbourne. The approach of making an album outside the recording studio, steeped in such legendary tales as The Rolling Stones at Villa Nellcôte or Radiohead’s ‘O.K Computer’ St Catherine’s Court sessions has made it the groups most collaborative yet, solidifying even more their seemingly telepathic musical interplay.

DAVE KOZ & CORY WONG · FAMILY REUNION ·RADIO SINGLE·

Just Koz Entertainment, Inc.
May 21, 2021

Saxophonist Dave Koz and hipster funk/jam band guitarist Cory Wong (Vulfpeck, the Fearless Flyers, Cory and the Wongnotes) celebrate the joy of reconnecting with loved ones on the infectious new single, “Family Reunion,” which is being serviced to radio on May 24. The track is from their forthcoming album, The Golden Hour, which will be released on June 11.

Dave Koz says, “‘Family Reunion’ is a complete musical celebration...you can just feel it in the energy of the track. A celebration not only for us musicians, but for the millions of families that due to Covid, have had to be separated from each other for a very long time. Families are now finally able to come together, to hug, to once again feel the special joy of being around loved ones – something we’ve all missed so much. That’s the musical DNA of this particular song.”

Cory Wong – who produced the album, co-wrote 10 of its 11 tracks and played electric guitar, among other instruments – notes, "It’s the kind of song that takes me right to the backyard on a hot summer day...the smell of the grill, the presence of friends, and an air of optimism that says 'everything's gonna be alright'. When we wrote this song, we wanted to capture the feeling of community. Recording a 10-piece band in a live room with that live energy really brought the song to life in a way that can't be fabricated by studio tricks!"

NORTH '2UNES' WOODALL · FUNKIE SISTER ·RADIO SINGLE·

2uneswave
May 14, 2021

Primarily a self-taught musician, it was at the age of eleven that his mom introduced him to the guitar and a love affair with music that has stood the test of time. In his teens, North “2unes” Woodall studied the playing styles of Ernie Isley, Santana, and Joe Walsh, among other R&B, funk, rock, and pop music styles. Hard work, determination, and a natural gift paid off and as a result of his exceptional proficiency with the guitar, he was quickly established with popular groups in and around Dayton, Ohio, such as The Delvones and Round Trip Ticket. North has since relocated to Atlanta, Georgia and was sought to share the stage with funk masters Lakeside, The Ohio Players, Roger Troutman and Zapp, Roy Aires, Millie Jackson, Tom Brown and Will Downing. He regularly sells out venues as the audiences know that they will be highly entertained and satisfied by tight arrangements and banging guitar solos with great licks.

MARC ANTOINE · SOMETHING ABOUT HER

Shanachie Entertainment
May 28, 2021

“It’s all about the voyage for me. I hope I can take listeners along with me to enjoy the voyage,” exclaims Marc Antoine. The Parisian born guitar extraordinaire’s spark for music began as a child. He recalls, “My parents told me that when I was four, I went into a trance while listening to Igor Stravinsky’s ‘The Rite of Spring.’” The same deep emotion that Antoine felt towards music as a child, has manifested itself in his remarkable ability to translate his powerful connection with music to his listeners. May 21, 2021 Marc Antoine will release his second recording for Shanachie Entertainment, Something About Her, dedicated to his wife Rebeca. “After 25 years, we are still in love,” reflects Antoine. The new recording is a life-affirming celebration that sizzles with dazzling melodies, dancing rhythms and exotic harmonies. Antoine is joined by many of his all-star friends including keyboardists David Benoit, Brian Simpson, Philippe Saisse and saxophonists Marion Meadows and Greg Vail, among others. “We are all good friends and everybody is magical in their own way,” shares Antoine, who is based in Laguna Niguel, a little town south of Laguna Beach in Southern California. “I prefer going to a studio and recording live with everyone but in this case, the collaborations were done in everyone’s own recording spaces. Technology these days is amazing and I think we still managed to make it sound like a live record. We defeated Covid in a way.” Danny Weiss, Shanachie Entertainment VP of Jazz A&R states, “Marc Antoine’s mastery and depth of expression of both jazz and classical guitar result in an absolutely exquisite style that is both beautiful and profound.”

Roman Street, named for an old roman street in the Alps where they studied guitar, is an internationally trained instrumental band specializing in improvisational fusion of Classical, Gypsy and Contemporary Jazz, Latin, and Nuevo Flamenco. A departure from the over-produced music that is out there today, they keep it simple—the beautifully organic sound of acoustic instruments played by talented people who love what they are doing. Whether performing as a guitar duo, or with a backing band, Roman Street astounds with music that appeals to fans of many genres.

The single follows Angel’s socially conscious 2020 interpretation of Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth,” which won New Artist Breakout Single for the IMN (Independent Music Network) award.

“Just The Two of Us” was produced by veteran jazz/R&B keyboardist/producer Jason Miles. The track is anchored by an array of top session musicians, including bassist Reggie Washington and drummer Gene Lake, who have recorded on several of Rebecca’s previous recordings.

PM WARSON · TRUE STORY

Légère Recordings
April 23, 2021

PM Warson grew up in an English town in the staple suburban musical landscape of heavy rock, the ghost of New Wave, and the fading star of the indie boom of the Noughties. He found his own fit in the form of Rhythm & Blues from half a century before, saving up two summers straight for a Rickenbacker guitar, getting the taste for playing live with an archetypal teenage power trio. After moving to London to study, he started to delve deeper into his musical vocabulary – Delta Blues, Americana, early jazz and rock’n’roll. Meanwhile, via the capital’s blues clubs and soul nights, he discovered a new setting for the music that had enticed him the first place.

A chance audition thrust him into full-time work as a touring musician, serving an apprenticeship, blissfully unqualified, alongside conservatoire-trained jazz musicians and session pros. Becoming more and more interested in production, ever-drawn to the Golden Era of record-making, Warson befriended the proprietors of Soup Studio, an all-analogue recording facility based in East London. He started moonlighting on production projects and learning the inner workings of a studio environment.
